From the Principal Chief

The Sacred Hoop

As some of you may know, about six and a half years ago I was told that I had cancer and only a few months to live. I've written about some of the lessons I have learned, and spoken of them to many of you, this one was revealed to me back in the year 2000.

A friend of mine has a son that I have never met. This son's name is Benjamin. When young Ben learned of my illness, he started that night including me in his paryers. Each night he prayed for me to get well, although he only knew me as a friend of his father's.

He wasn't concerned about the fact that I didin't go to his church or any of the things that sometimes get in the way in an adult mind. he just knew that I was sick and he prayed for me to be well again. A couple of years later I saw his Dad, and in our conversation I told him that I was finished with my treatment and was cancer free. When he got home that evening he relayed the news that I was well to Benjamin. When Benjamin said his prayers that night there was one small, but significant change. he finished with "Thank you God, for making Mr. Bob well".

How many times do we adults forget the last part? I was moved and inspired beyond words that this young man has such an understanding of spiritual things. It is a credit to him and his parents and an inspiration to us all.

The telephone number to Creator is not limited to 911 calls. We need to take a lesson from Benjamin and say "Thank You". So, Benjamin, thank you for your prayers for me and for the Spiritual Lesson.

Wado!
