Winter Gathering 2006
Siyu, My Brothers and Sisters One and All,
The Winter Gathering went pretty good. There were some loose ends that needed to be taken care of Monday & Tuesday but all went well. Monday and Tuesday were cold with sun and the rest of the week was sunny.
Wednesday was the first night that I stayed on property and I was able to stay out there the rest of the week. Wednesday night pipe ceremony was very good, after we went Social Sacred and told stories and happy talk.
Thursday was the day to clean the pig for Friday BBQ. Friday afternoon I took everyone to the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp for an airboat ride on the St john's River. It is the only river in North America that flows from South to North. We saw lots of alligators and birds of all kinds. Everyone had fun, then we had a lunch of gator, froglegs and catfish. After we ate Crowtalker and Spiritshadow took all those who were interested to Cocoa Beach. The ocean is quite cool this time of year but walking on the beach was wonderful.
Friday night after the pig roast we had the Trade Blanket. Plenty of great items and the laughter flowed. We had a Social Fire with drumming up in the area by the kitchen & barn.
Saturday we got a chance to relax and enjoy each other just sitting around talking and cutting up. Coyote was definitely around. That night after the Pipe Ceremony we got out the Free Cherokee Drum and played along with all the other instruments for some great songs, some new to us and some favorites, enjoying the last night togehter.
There was no Lodge built but the site was confirmed for next year. There was alot of talk about the next Winter Gathering and the improvements to come. It was a good time for all who could be there and everyone else was always in our prayers.
Now we look to Summer Gathering and can not wait to see all again.
