Sacred Pipe Ceremony

Sacred Pipe We use one form of Lakota Pipe ceremony and one form of Revealed Inclimate Weather Pipe ceremony.

As with most ceremonies, we move in a clockwise manner. Upon entering the gate of our Sacred Circle, all attending are smudged with the Sacred Sage. After smudging, all attendees should enter the left side of the person smudging…through the gate and proceed in a clockwise manner until everyone has entered.

While in the Sacred Circle there is to be no unnecessary chatter. After the fire is lit, tobacco will be sent around in a clockwise manner for your prayer offering.

The ceremony leader will then stand, as should everyone in the circle that is capable. The opening prayer will then be offered. Each person is asked to offer their opening prayers. After all prayers have been offered, everyone will be seated.

The leader of the ceremony will put together the Sacred Pipe, adding offerings to each of the seven directions. Once the pipe is lit, the prayers of the seven directions are offered to the Creator. The pipe is rotated with the bowl in the left hand clockwise one time after each prayer and passed from left hand to left hand in a clockwise manner.

When the pipe returns to the ceremonial leader, they will then thank the Creator and the spirits of all directions. The pipe will be dismantled and returned to the pipe bag.

The Talking Stick is passed around for each person to be heard. The person holding the Talking Stick is the only one speaking. Conversation relating to learning or giving thanks will be the topics at this time.

The closing prayer will be offered by the ceremonial leader. The person to the right of the ceremonial leader will exit the circle through the gate, with the altar to your right. All will follow, moving clockwise to exit.
